SPARTANBURG, SC (WSPA) – Krispy Kreme is deflating the price of a dozen original glazed donuts to match average gas prices in the United States.
“We know everyone could use a little donut deflation to ease recent pump pain,” the company said in a statement.
Every Wednesday through August 31, Krispy Kreme sets the price of its dozen original Beat the Pump glazings based on the national average price of a gallon of regular gasoline.
The August 3 price was $4.21, with prices changing from week to week. That’s down from $11.99, which is the online price at the Middleburg Heights location.
The offer is only available in-store, drive-thru or online, according to the Krispy Kreme website.
Krispy Kreme will announce the new Dozen price every Tuesday on its website. The new price will also be posted on the company’s Facebook and Twitter pages.
The company said guests are limited to two dozen Original Glazed at participating stores via in-store, drive-thru or online.
Although a gallon of regular gasoline is selling for $4.21 on average Wednesday, that’s significantly lower than in June, when the national average topped $5 a gallon. Nonetheless, it’s still extremely high for many frontline workers and families, and about 32% higher than what drivers were paying a year ago.
