Michael Owen has issued an apology after being unveiled as Donuts on The Masked Singer.

The former Liverpool FC striker was one of 12 celebrities who appeared on season 3 of ITV’s hit programme.

The 42-year-old was voted out by the judges in tonight’s double elimination following his performance on Five’s Everybody Get Up.

Michael took to Twitter after the show to apologize for “burning” viewers’ ears during his time on the show.

He said: “Finally, I can apologize for burning your ears for the past few weeks.

“My kids pestered me to do @MaskedSingerUK but I have to say it was a great experience and a lot of fun. I still can’t believe I made it past the first round!”

Michael also performed Sweet Caroline and Eye of The Tiger in his time on The Masked Singer and he received praise for his energetic routines.

Viewers who followed the show on Twitter took to the social media platform to express their shock that Michael Owen appeared on this season of the ITV show.

Sarina said, “I never thought I’d see Michael Owen dressed up as donuts singing on TV. Life is full of surprises.”

Teena added: ‘In shock I never thought Michael Owen would do the #MaskedSingerUK’

Amélie posted: “I really enjoyed your performance, I screamed when you took off your mask. well done.”

Jon commented: “MICHAEL OWEN?!”
