Fans of ITV’s The Masked Singer think they have a pretty good idea of the secret celebrity behind Donut’s doughy disguise.

Viewers are frantically trying to guess which stars are hiding behind this series’ increasingly elaborate costumes, with recent OTT favorites including Lionfish, Traffic Cone, Rockhopper, Mushroom, Panda, Firework and Poodle.

But the character that really caused a stir was Donuts, who is set to return to the stage tonight (Saturday, January 8) for the program’s special Movie Night episode.

A host of guesses have been floated so far – from DJ Nick Grimshaw (who was panelist Rita Ora’s first choice) to ex-football star turned pundit Gary Lineker.

However, to keep with the sports theme, it was former England superstar Michael Owen who many believed put the “Oh!” in Donut.

Fans took to social media to talk about the possibility of detecting a Liverpool accent under all that latex and there was also a mention of ‘chips’ – Owen having had his own special edition of the ‘cheese and Owen’ flavor Walkers at the time of his first World Cup appearance.

Additionally, he described himself as “really fast” and made an off-the-cuff remark about being a jockey, possibly a reference to the fact that Owen has a well-documented love for thoroughbreds and in has several.

“He has his own racehorses and has a scouse accent,” @carhammers posted on Twitter, while @helenyorks added, “It’s his voice – forget all the other ‘clues’. Are the bookmakers open ?”

The Masked Singer is on ITV tonight at 7 p.m.
