Tucked away in Swansea’s otherwise ordinary Duke Street is a small shop with a colorful storefront and even more colorful interior, called mad baker .

Inside the store, which opened just five weeks ago, is a wonderland of sweet treats, sandwiches and vegan foods in all sorts of colors and flavors; all the brainchild of owner Giovanni and his son.

Staff member Nathan said: “The people of Swansea are fantastic, it’s the best in the city centre.

“We had a customer who bought us a donut and started yelling ‘these are the best donuts ever!’ in the street in front of our bakery.

“He actually won us some extra customers that day, oddly enough.”

The Crazy Baker on Duke Street, Swansea, only opened five weeks ago

The idea for the quirky bakery came when owner Giovanni and his son experimented with dessert recipes and put their own spin on donuts, brownies, custard slices and more.

Nathan said: “We put our own spin on things which makes it a special experience when you visit us.”

In addition to dessert options, Crazy Baker offers sandwiches with breads of different colors, from pink to yellow, infused with flavors like beetroot and curry.

The bakery stocks these colorful additions to school lunches in Swansea, Neath and Cardiff from its factory in Fforestfach.

As for donuts, Nathan said, “Our most popular donut flavors include Kinder Bueno, Terry’s Chocolate Orange, which is filled with the finest cream, Biscoff and Oreo.

“We also offer six great vegan donuts, our most popular flavor being Orange, Coconut and Pistachio.”

The bakery also supplies coffee from SO Coffee, a wholesale and retail coffee company based in Swansea. It is important for Crazy Baker to stock local products.

However, some things can never be replicated and one of them is Italian ice cream.

Using a Carpigiani ice cream maker, the bakery creates ice creams and milkshakes in Oreo and Terry’s Chocolate Orange flavors.

Nathan said: “We love being in the heart of Swansea and can’t wait to see the town become an even bigger attraction with the exciting redevelopments.
