The new line of ice cream kicks off with two flavors: Pontch’s Mix and Rosie’s Batch, named after the employee dogs. Pontch is a French Bulldog and Rosie is a mixed heritage rescue dog. Ben & Jerry’s Vermont head office is a dog friendly workplace where there are often up to 40 dogs in the office at any given time.
Ben & Jerry’s was founded in 1978 by Jerry Greenfield and Ben Cohen. The ice cream brand is known for its high quality ice cream with mixes as well as catchy and clever ice cream flavor names such as Cherry Garcia, Cchunky Monkey, and Americone Dream.
For dogs, Pontch’s Mix flavor is a mix of peanut butter and pretzel swirls. Creamy pumpkin and mini cookies make up Rosie’s bundle. You can buy them individually or in multipacks.
Retail prices for individual treats start at $ 2.99 for 4-ounce cups. Multipacks with four 4-ounce cups range from $ 4.99 to $ 7.99. You can order them now at benandjerry.com or search for them in select grocery stores, big box retailers and pet stores nationwide.
Ben & Jerry’s claims that all of the ingredients in their dog desserts are those found in their current ice cream recipes. But instead of using dairy for dog treats, theirs are made from sunflower butter, as dogs are lactose intolerant and can only tolerate small amounts of dairy, according to the American Kennel Club. . Sunflower butter is gentle on your puppy’s tummy, they said.
And just in case people are wondering if they can get licked, Ben & Jerry’s says they’re not “labeled for human pleasure.”
âWe know our fans love their dogs and treat them like family,â said Lindsay Bumps, Ben & Jerry’s global marketer who also happens to be a certified veterinary technician, in a press release. âWe created this line of products so that puppies can enjoy something even better than belly massages. Desserts for dogs are the sweetest treat they’ll ever get their hands on.
The company’s pet project began in early 2020 before the pandemic.
âGiven our dog-friendly office and our passion for our puppies (after all, they’re our family!), We wanted to bring the fun of Ben & Jerry to our dogs,â Bumps said in an email. at Free Press.
In developing the pet-friendly treat, Ben & Jerry’s worked with a veterinary nutritionist, regulatory consultant, and the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) and NSF International to “make sure we create a safe treat.” (and delicious) for our puppies. “
Ben & Jerry’s also launched employee dogs in its social media campaigns. You can also see and learn all about Ben & Jerry’s office dogs on his website.
