It’s hard to pin down the exact emotion, but for many years I was a bit… well… put off by the sorbet. Almost every time I’m in a restaurant and graciously turn down dairy-based desserts, I get the response, “But, there’s sorbet!” It was like the consolation prize. But Elegant Desserts has reinvented the sorbet, transforming it from simple scoops into a dessert in its own right.
Elegant desserts Sorbet creations and creamy pops are a real treat
My first indulgence at Elegant Desserts was little more than a sorbet. The towers pictured above (sold in packs of 12) have a thin base layer of sponge cake, topped with fruit sorbet or frozen dessert (soya-based) and a final layer of fruit puree. They are amazing! I didn’t feel slighted in the least as I indulged in every sweet, creamy, delicate bite.
Fruit filled with sorbet!
But these impressive single servings of Elegant Desserts left me wondering if the simple sorbet-filled fruit would measure up. Luckily, I underestimated how wonderful fruit-based sweets can be. The pastry chefs at Elegant Desserts hand cut each fruit half, leaving the shell and just a thin layer of fruit. They then use the flesh of the fresh fruit to make the sorbet, then rewrap it directly in the shell or wedge.
The resulting presentation is fun and delicious. The elegant desserts don’t go overboard with the sugars – the sorbets are ripe with fruit flavors and the true tartness remains. And I love how there’s a thin layer of frozen fruit at the bottom to scoop out. Honestly, I couldn’t choose a favorite either. I tasted apple, mango, watermelon, pineapple and cantaloupe and all were delicious. They also offer peach and coconut.
Although Elegant Desserts has many other frozen offerings, the last one we tasted was their sorbet lollipops. Cute and perfectly proportioned (okay, I could easily eat all 4 in one sitting!) These fun little treats are one of their Passover specialties. The ones we sampled had a thin outer layer of confectionery and a center of sorbet.
Dairy Free Creamy Popsicles
We haven’t tried them, but Elegant Desserts makes jumbo popsicles in assorted sorbet and ice cream flavors. All are dairy-free and kosher pareve, including Hazelnut, Churro, and Pina Colada flavors.
